NOVEMBER 22, 1963
• At 12:30pm, President John F. Kennedy was shot in the back and
then the head. He was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital but at
1:00pm the 35th President of the United States was pronounced
dead. On board Air Force One, at 2:38pm, Lyndon B. Johnson was
sworn in as the 36th President.
BIRTHDAY - NOVEMBER 22, 1859
• Outlaw Billy the Kid (1859-1881)
was born in New York City. He was
one of the most notorious gunfighters
of the American Wild West. He was
reputed to have killed at least 27 men
before he was shot twice through the
heart by Sheriff Pat Garrett. He was 21
years of age.
NOVEMBER 24, 1863
• The Battle of Chattanooga took place during
the American Civil War as General Ulysses Grant’s
soldiers scaled heavily fortified Lookout Mountain
and overran Confederate General Braxton Bragg’s army.

• The first American holiday occurred, proclaimed by President
George Washington to be Thanksgiving Day.

• FBI agents killed bank robber George “Baby Face”

BIRTHDAYS - NOVEMBER 28, 1835 AND 1874
• American author Samuel Clemens (1835-1910) was born in
Florida, Missouri. He wrote books under the pen
name Mark Twain including The Adventures of
Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn, and The Prince and the Pauper.
• Winston Churchill (1874-1965)
was born in Oxfordshire, England. He
became prime Minister during WWII
in 1940. His inspirational speeches,
combined with his political skills and
military strategy carried Britain through
the war, and helped the Allies overcome
the Nazi onslaught and defeat Hitler.
