NOVEMBER 22, 1963<br />

• At 12:30pm, President John F. Kennedy was shot in the back and<br />

then the head. He was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital but at<br />

1:00pm the 35th President of the United States was pronounced<br />

dead. On board Air Force One, at 2:38pm, Lyndon B. Johnson was<br />

sworn in as the 36th President.<br />

BIRTHDAY - NOVEMBER 22, 1859<br />

• Outlaw Billy the Kid (1859-1881)<br />

was born in New York City. He was<br />

one of the most notorious gunfighters<br />

of the American Wild West. He was<br />

reputed to have killed at least 27 men<br />

before he was shot twice through the<br />

heart by Sheriff Pat Garrett. He was 21<br />

years of age.<br />

NOVEMBER 24, 1863<br />

• The Battle of Chattanooga took place during<br />

the American Civil War as General Ulysses Grant’s<br />

soldiers scaled heavily fortified Lookout Mountain<br />

and overran Confederate General Braxton Bragg’s army.<br />

NOVEMBER 25, 1783<br />

• At the end of the Revolutionary War the last British troops left<br />

New York City.<br />

NOVEMBER 26, 1789<br />

• The first American holiday occurred, proclaimed by President<br />

George Washington to be Thanksgiving Day.<br />

NOVEMBER 28, 1934<br />

• FBI agents killed bank robber George “Baby Face”<br />

Nelson near Barrington, Illinois.<br />

BIRTHDAYS - NOVEMBER 28, 1835 AND 1874<br />

• American author Samuel Clemens (1835-1910) was born in<br />

Florida, Missouri. He wrote books under the pen<br />

name Mark Twain including The Adventures of<br />

Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry<br />

Finn, and The Prince and the Pauper.<br />

• Winston Churchill (1874-1965)<br />

was born in Oxfordshire, England. He<br />

became prime Minister during WWII<br />

in 1940. His inspirational speeches,<br />

combined with his political skills and<br />

military strategy carried Britain through<br />

the war, and helped the Allies overcome<br />

the Nazi onslaught and defeat Hitler.<br />
