6 Common Fitness Mistakes
You are working out right and eating well - but you’re having a hard time
really seeing tangible results. Maybe it’s time to take a closer look at your
fitness regimen to see where you might be going wrong.
Here are 6 common mistakes I see clients making in their fitness journey.
1. BLAMING BETTYS
I hear this quite often, “Oh so and so has amazing genetics” or, “I’ll
always be this way because I have a slow metabolism.” Where sometimes
this is true, most often it is not the true case. There are very
few genetic or common hormone issues that most can’t be overcome
with the right help. It might just take a little extra work and research
on your part to find a program that works for you. People usually use
this as an excuse to slack when in reality they’re just not willing to
put in the work and rather “blame” it on something that they see as
a legit excuse. With the right type of professional guidance, nutrition,
determination, and of course patience, it’s possible to overcome genetics
and hormone issues and get the results you are really
looking for.
2. LAZY LESLIES
If you’re not really pushing yourself each workout,
your results are going to be lackluster. You
pretty much get out of it what you put in to it.
If you quit 2 seconds after that burn sets in,
you’re giving up too early. It’s not necessarily
no pain no gain, but it is definitely
no burn no gain! Don’t be so quick to throw
that dumbbell down when the going gets
tough. I always tell my clients to think about
their goal when they’re ready to give up and
that laziness is NOT an injury! Most of the
time our minds quit before our bodies do.
Really push yourself and you might be
surprised with the results that come.
3. DISTRACTED DIANAS
Finding yourself gazing out the window
thinking about anything else than
your workout? Then maybe it’s time
to switch things up and try a new class
or workout program. I’m not saying
your workout should always be a total
boatload of fun but you should somewhat
enjoy it or at the very least LOVE the way
you feel when you’re done. If your workout is
totally boring you, it’s time to move on. How
can you expect results out of something you
totally dread?
4. SCARED SUSIES
Ok, this is probably no surprise but to create a change you need
the right resistance. I know there are some trainers and fitness gurus
out there that swear by lifting pencils, but my personal opinion is the
heavier the better. Within safe guidelines of course! Unless you’re
taking steroids or your diet is in huge surplus of junk you are not going
to look like a man. I’ve transformed hundreds of women to prove
lifting heavy produces ah-mazing results!
5. CARDIO CARLYS
While cardio definitely has its time and place, I see too many
people skipping the weights and becoming cardio crazed. Yes,
certain types of cardio help aid in fat loss but you will not
maximize your results with cardio alone. The best shaped
bodies (in my opinion) come from the perfect mix of resistance
training with high intensity cardio. The days of
long bouts of boring cardio are over! Thank goodness!
6. IMPATIENT INGRIDS
All too often I see people give up way too early
on in the game because they’re not exactly where
they want to be! Fitness takes time! Whether it
takes 3 months or 1 year, that’s ok! Everyone
is on their own time frame and results will
come differently for each person. Each time I
came back post-pregnancy I would work for
months and months with little to no change,
then all of a sudden the weight would just fall
off and everything would come into play. You
might be just like me! So, give it time. One of
the hardest parts about fitness is to keep going
when the results are slow. Usually, clients
are just on the verge of seeing results when
they quit. Have patience and just keep going!
It takes months for the average person to really
start seeing serious changes, so just be
consistent and stick with it.
