Thanksgiving is the perfect time to celebrate the harvest and to<br />
give thanks for your blessings of the past year. It is also a great<br />
opportunity to give back to your community. There are several<br />
ways to achieve this and it is not all about giving money.<br />
VOLUNTEER<br />
For some folks, they have more time than money, so<br />
volunteering may be an effective and viable way of giving back to<br />
the community. Consider places you already spend a lot of time<br />
at, such as your child’s school or your congregation, a local nonprofit,<br />
homeless shelter, animal shelter, etc. Your time is valuable<br />
and gifting it can make a world of difference in the lives of many.<br />
The non-profits in your area would be thankful and grateful for<br />
the helping hand.<br />
TURKEY TROT<br />
A Turkey Trot is a footrace usually held on or around<br />
Thanksgiving Day and is fast becoming one of our Thanksgiving<br />
traditions along with the bird itself. So why not gather the family<br />
and participate in the 5K walk/run which will burn enough<br />
calories for that extra piece of Grandma’s pie.<br />
THANKSGIVING BASKET<br />
A hands-on way to help create Thanksgiving dinner for families<br />
struggling in your town. Invite family, friends and colleagues<br />
(e.g. at work, place of worship or social club)<br />
to do the same and then search the web<br />
for your nearest food pantry to<br />
drop off your baskets. Below is a<br />
sample list of things to include: -<br />
1 canned ham or cooked ham<br />
2 cans of Green Beans<br />
2 cans of Yams<br />
1 Bag of Marshmallows<br />
Brown Sugar<br />
2 cans of Corn<br />
1 can Cranberry Sauce<br />
1 box or bag of Stuffing Mix<br />
