Bathroom Hazards
By: Heather Latimer / Heather’s Self-Help Tips
The bathroom is a dangerous place! According
to the Center for Disease Control more
deaths and injuries happen there than anywhere
else in the house.
A common mishap occurs because racks for holding lightweight
towels are mistaken for grab bars designed to support your weight. Grab
bars are shaped like a tube, usually 5” around, and 18” long.
If you do not have them already, buy them now. And never use grab
bars with suction cups.
Clutching a sliding glass door to gain support as you step in and out
of the shower is a cause of fatalities according to Safety Circus Report.
They suggest replacing with a shower curtain.
Changing position in the shower or standing up in the bathtub can
be disastrous. First check where the soap is because it often falls in the
water.
If it is difficult to obtain a firm grip on the edge of the bathtub when
trying to get out, drape a damp towel over the edge of the tub and you’ll
find it easier to hold onto.
Physical Therapist Don Howard says “Wherever water, soap and bare
skin are combined in any situation there’s risk of injury. Any floor can
become slippery when wet. A residue of soap can be present somewhere,
especially on the soles of your feet.”
Bringing the Dealership
to You
By: BJ Killeen / Down the Road
Life is easy now. If you want dinner, place your
order on your food delivery app and a full
meal arrives in under an hour.
Need something from a store? Amazon will have it on your doorstep
overnight.
But when it comes to vehicle service, many of us are still doing it the
old way — driving to the dealer, dropping off the vehicle, or sitting and
waiting for it to be done so we can get on with our day.
Today there are a few ways we can stay at home and still get our
vehicles serviced. First is pickup and delivery, offered by some luxury
automotive brands.
For example, Lincoln makes it easy when you request service. They
will send a concierge to your home or business to pick up your ride,
drop off a courtesy vehicle for you to use, and then bring your vehicle
back, usually the same day.
No fuss, no muss. Genesis, Mercedes-Benz and others do this as well.
Another option is mobile service. This is where the service department
comes to you! Mobile service has been around only a short while. It
started with third-party companies like Amazon, and not from the
manufacturers.
It became really popular during COVID, when no one wanted to go
out in the world. Today, mobile service requests have doubled since it
was introduced.
Ford, Lincoln, and others will bring the dealership to your home
via a large van or smaller SUV, depending on service needs. They can
perform most maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, tune
ups, software updates and more. Plus, you can use reward points to pay
for it with your Ford and Lincoln accounts.
Mobile Service may cost a bit more than regular service, but for those
who don’t want to drive to the dealership because of distance, are ill, or
just have to stay home, it’s worthwhile.
Keep in mind not every dealer offers this, and dealerships set their
own prices for the service, but you are getting a trained technician who
knows your vehicle and how to fix it.
