The Influence of MAGIC
By: Lisa Kemmerling / Fashion Couture
Paris Fashion Week is the hottest ticket in town
if you’re into Fashion. Even if you’re not
into fashion we still need everyday clothing and
jackets to stay warm.
But without the fabulous designers creating new looks for every
season, there wouldn’t be a wonderful show held right in our own
backyard of Las Vegas, called the MAGIC show. More about that later.
Believe it or not, fashion can be dated back to ancient Rome and
Egypt. I learned that a toga was a symbol of Roman citizenship.
Traveling to Italy lately, I can assure you that I’ve not seen any togas
on people - unless they were a statue.
Living the Jetsons’ Life
By: Linda Bateman-Gomez / Timeless Beauty
For many of us born in the ‘50s, the idea of
robots was a fun fantasy.
As children we were introduced to robots with
a cartoon called the Jetsons, a family living and
working in space. The Jetsons had a maid named Rosie. She was a
robot performing daily chores.
Fast forward to 2024 and robots doing daily chores is no longer a
fantasy but a reality.
The technology for beauty robots is here. Perhaps not quite perfect,
you can have your nails painted by a robot right here in Las Vegas!
A company called Clockwork (LikeClockwork.com) has a robot that
paints your nails in 10 minutes for $10.00. While they only have about
8 locations nationwide, one of their locations is in Terminal 1 near
gate B15 at Harry Reid airport.
Often I am asked why is fashion important at all? Because it’s a
visual marker of how far human evolution has come.
What used to be considered a necessary tool in our lives has now
become a way for self-expression, identity and ways of showing changes
in social norms. Many important designers came out of the 1950s, -
Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and many more.
As each decade has made some impact into fashion, the styles have
changed with the times. I’m pretty certain that King Louis XIV, who
paid large sums of money for the finest of fashions, would be mortified
with the 2000s and beyond as anything goes, with no fashion rules or
guidelines.
As a devoted fashion follower and stylist, I am fortunate to attend
the MAGIC trade show every August and February. At one time MAGIC
featured only men’s clothing and accessories, and now it covers men,
women and children’s apparel as well as footwear.
It’s an exciting time to see all the styles that will arrive in stores in
the future and sometimes we get to meet some of the designers from
around the world. Unfortunately there’s not enough space to write
about all the fashion icons, designers, and styles so I’ll leave you with
this one thought - what does Art, the Movies and Music all have in
common? Fashion of course!
This is an express paint and go, so don’t expect a massage or cuticle
cleanup. But if you are on the run and need a quick polish, this robot
is for you.
Robots are no longer a fantasy and I suspect things will evolve even
further in a few short years. While technology is exciting, I’m an old
fashion kind of girl.
I enjoy chatting with people. When given the option, I never use selfcheckout,
I like interacting with the checkout people.
I’m old enough to remember when there was a person to fill your
car with gas, check your oil and wash your windshield. I miss those
days. For future generations, I suspect many of the services we have
today may be lost.
By the way, I didn’t go looking for robots that could do beauty
functions for this article. I was sent the links by my 13-year-old
granddaughter who was excited to share this info.
For my granddaughter’s generation, robots doing daily functions
and using AI will just be the norm. They may never know the fun of
random chit-chat at your local store or salon.
That makes me sad, but we all adjust. Next time I’m in Terminal 1 at
the airport, I might just have to try the nail painting robot.
