wood species from BC before, Shamna and
Wojciech were familiar with its durability,
sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. The design
team collaborated with Canadian Wood India,
benefitting from their expertise on different
species and their applications.
Canadian Wood India promotes BC, Canada’s
wood products from sustainably managed
forests. Working with the wood sector across
India, the team educates about BC wood
products through seminars, exhibitions,
networking events and product trials.
Douglas fir was selected for a variety of
applications throughout the restaurant,
including interior fittings, dining tables, chairs,
and a staircase. The warm ambiance created
by these solid wood elements added a touch of
sophistication to the space, elevating the dining
experience for the patrons. Douglas fir, known
for its workability, has strength properties.
The wood is said to dry rapidly with small
dimensional movement and little tendency to
split or crack. Due to its strength, Douglas fir is
regularly used for building and construction with
manufacturing applications including general
millwork such as doors, windows, flooring,
furniture, and cabinets. 1

The outcome of the project is said to have
exceeded expectations, with the furniture
design and manufacturing quality garnering
praise. The result blended creativity, innovation,
and craftsmanship. The use of Douglas fir
showcased its durability and highlighted its
contribution to sustainable design practices.
The project demonstrates the advantages
of biophilic design, with the use of natural
materials and plant features for an environment
that feels healthy, relaxing, and creative.

The Nativ restaurant exemplified the beauty
of wood in interior design and architecture,
standing as a testament to the impact that wood
can have on a space, setting the stage for future
