COMMITTEE ON GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.
February 5th, 1916.
Present Chairman Van Cleef, Trustees Schurman, A. D. White,
Hiscock, Williams, Edwards, C. E. Treman. Comptroller Williams.
Regrets were received from Trustees Pound, T. B. Wilson and
Westinghouse and their absences excused.
Minutes of the meeting of January 15th, 1916, were read and ap
proved.
Action was taken as follows :
1. A communication was received from the Secretary of the Governor
notifying the University of the appointment on January 26th, 1916,
of Hon. Horace White of Syracuse as a member of the Board of
Trustees of Cornell University to succeed Mr. John N. Carlisle of
Watertown,
whose term expired Commencement week 1915.
2. There was presented a communication from the Carnegie Founda
tion advising that a pension of $1,340, effective from October 23rd,
1915, had been granted to Mrs. Elizabeth McMaster Flint.
3. Resolved, That the President be authorized to confer degrees
upon candidates who are recommended therefor by their respective
faculties, on any date prior to Commencement.
4. Leave of absence under the statute governing sabbatic leaves
and without prejudice to salary was granted to Assistant Professor
W. N. Sawdon for the first term of the year 1916-17, on condition his
work can be carried on to the satisfaction of the President without
additional cost to the University.
5. Resolved, That the leave of absence granted to Professor C. H.
Tuck on May ist, 1914, for the whole or part of the college year 19 14-
15, which leave was postponed action by of the Agricultural Council
at its on meeting November 6th, 1914, be made effective for six
months beginning February ist, 1916, with the privilege of extension
for a year under the terms of the statute governing sabbatic leaves.
6. $300, or so much thereof as may be needed, was appropriated to
the Geological Department toward the expenses of Professor A. C.
Gill during his leave of absence in the year 1916-17 in collecting
minerals and specimens for the Geological Department.
