department for assistance.
Resolved,
That on account of the increased registration in miner
alogy the Department of Geology be allowed $50 for employing assis
tance during the second term.
Resolved, That on account of the increased registration in Psychol
ogy that Department be allowed $100 for employing assistance during
the second term.
The resignation of A. H. Sweet, Assistant in English History, to
take effect at the end of the first term was presented and accepted ;
and it was
Resolved, That to fill the vacancy
thus created W. D. Smith be
appointed for the second term, with salary at the rate of $350 and free
tuition.
Further Resolved, That, upon the recommendation of the Depart
ment of History and of the Graduate School, W. D. Smith be allowed
to resign his graduate scholarship in history at the end of the first
term and that he be not required to pay back to the University the
money received from his scholarship during that term.
16. A communication from the Commissioner of Education of
Porto Rico as inquiring to a possible reduction in tuition rates for
Porto Rico teachers and the reply of Director Bristol to same were re
ceived and placed on file.
17. Upon recommendation of the Chairman of the entrance ex
amination board it was Resolved, that that portion of the rule govern
ing fees for mid-year entrance examinations, of fees paid providing
for refund, in case of later matriculation in the University, was
repealed.
18. Upon the recommendation of the Library Council the Librarian
was authorized to present to the National Library of Iceland certain
duplicates in the Fiske collection of a value of about $85.00.
19. A communication from the Women's Medical Association of
New York City asking that women students be permitted to pursue
their first year studies in medicine in New York City was referred to
the faculty of the Cornell University Medical College in New York
City
for recommendation.
20. An emergency appropriation of $2,100 or so much thereof as
may be needed was made to cover the cost of changes in Rockefeller
Hall in fitting up a temporary laboratory

21. Permission was given to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity
for use of Sage and Risley Halls with both room and board in con
nection with their annual convention to be held at Cornell June 26th
to July ist next, room and board to be charged at such rates as may
be fixed by
the management.
