2.10 Effect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> duration <strong>of</strong> reoxygenation (Study 3)<br />

In this study, <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> ischaernia was 60 min in all groups but <strong>the</strong> muscles were<br />

reoxygenated for 2,4,12 and 24 hr.<br />

LDH Leakqgeý Figure 2.14 shows that <strong>the</strong> enzyme leakage was gradually increased<br />

with <strong>the</strong> extension <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> duration <strong>of</strong> reoxygenation, however, as shown in Study 1,<br />

this elevation may represent <strong>the</strong> overtime accumulation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enzyme ra<strong>the</strong>r than<br />

net release <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enzyme. Thus, <strong>the</strong> regression analysis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> values (inset to Figure<br />

2.14) revealed a LDH leakage pr<strong>of</strong>ile similar to that seen in Study 1. Also a similar<br />

LDH pr<strong>of</strong>ile was observed in <strong>the</strong> presence <strong>of</strong> neutrophils for <strong>the</strong> first 12 hr <strong>of</strong><br />

reoxygenation, however, after 24 hr <strong>of</strong> reperfusion, LDH leakage was massive when<br />

compared with <strong>the</strong> group without neutrophils (20.32 ± 0.64 vs 11.02 ± 0.5 U/9 wet<br />

wt respectively, p
