Altitude 140 m. Seepages from disturbed spring<br />

lines, forming shallow, sludgy pools in ruts and<br />

depressions, dominated by hard rush, with jointed<br />

rush, common spike-rush and stoneworts. Site for<br />

Ischnura purnilio, I. elegans, Libellula depressa and<br />

Sympetrurn stridaturn.<br />

June 1990<br />

Altitude 35 m. Shallow mesotrophic pond with bare<br />

gravelly banks in area of heathland. The open water<br />

contains beds of white water-lily, with waterplantain<br />

and marsh St. John's-wort at the margins.<br />

Site for Anax irnperator, Libeilula depressa,<br />

Orthetrurn cancellaturn and Syrnpetrurn stridaturn.<br />

August 1988<br />

Altitude 54 rn. Slow-moving river with rich aquatic<br />

vegetation including yellow water-lily and<br />

pondweed species, emergent common club-rush<br />

and branched bur-reed, and marginal reed canarygrass,<br />

common nettle and willows. Site typical for<br />

Platycnemis pennipes, Calopteryx splendons,<br />

Erythromrna najas and Ischnura elegans.<br />

Altitude 2 m. Sheep-stocked coastal grazing marsh,<br />

with a network of ditches which contain bulrush,<br />

frogbit, duckweeds, flowering-rush and hard rush.<br />

Site for Brachytron pratense, Aeshna rnixta,<br />

Syrnpetrurn sanguineum, Coenagnon pulchellurn,<br />

Lestes sponsa and, formerly, L. dryas (last recorded<br />

1941).<br />
