Dec. 3 Mistletoe Ball
Tickets Now Available!
Join Ulysses and Julia Grant
on the Italian leg of their aroundthe-world
tour at the 30th Annual
Mistletoe Ball: An Evening with
the Grants in Palermo. Galena’s
Turner Hall will be aglow for the
festive holiday season, decorated
in the style of the yacht on which
General and Mrs. Grant celebrated
Christmas during the first year of
their world tour. This year’s Ball
is Saturday evening, Dec. 3 from
6:30 p.m. until midnight.
Hosted by the Galena-Jo
Daviess County Historical Society,
the evening begins with a complimentary
drink luge and hors
d’oeuvres. The elegant Victorian
sit-down dinner, catered by Fried
Green Tomatoes, will feature
dining options inspired by Italy
as well as the menu served at the
Grants’ Christmas dinner in 1877.
Dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The 10-piece Ken Killian Saxtet
Orchestra will offer a mix of contemporary
and period music. Sets
of historic dancing will add a period-appropriate
ambience to the
evening. A dance lesson to teach
the latest 18th century steps is
