The lithostratigraphic nomenclature is analyzed and revised, the Las Aguaditas Formationis proposed for the carbonate succession that is overlying the San Juan Formation. The middle Darriwilian conodontfaunas recovered from the studied stratigraphic interval allowed the usage of the Baltic biostratigraphic chart: theEoplacognathus pseudoplanus and the Eoplacognathus suecicus zones. The contact between the San Juan and Las Aguaditasformations is analyzed and correlation is possible with several localities of the Central Precordillera.Resumen: ESTRATIGRAFÍA Y BIOESTRATIGRAFÍA DEL ORDOVÍCICO MEDIO DEL RÍO LAS CHACRITAS, PRECORDILLERACENTRAL DE SAN JUAN.- Se reconocen dos unidades carbonáticas ordovícicas en la Quebrada del río Las Chacritas (Sierrade La Trampa, Precordillera Central). Se analiza y revisa la nomenclatura litoestratigráfica proponiéndose Formación LasAguaditas para la sucesión carbonática que sobreyace a la Formación San Juan. Se da a conocer la bioestratigrafía deconodontes de la sucesión carbonática darriwiliana media, especialmente la del tope de la Formación San Juan y de la parteinferior de la Formación Las Aguaditas. Se analiza el pase entre la Formación San Juan y la transición calcáreo-pelítica(Formación Las Aguaditas), y se lo correlaciona con otras localidades de la Precordillera Central.Keywords: Ordovician, Central Precordillera, stratigraphy, conodonts, biostratigraphyPalabras clave: Ordovícico, Precordillera Central, estratigrafía, conodontes, bioestratigrafíaIntroducciónEn el ámbito occidental de la Precordillera Central, en la Sierra de La Trampa, aflorandepósitos del Paleozoico Inferior que han sido estudiados en las últimas décadas por diversosespecialistas (Espisúa, 1968; Astini, 1994; Peralta y Baldis, 1995; Astini y Carrera, 1998; Peralta etal., 1999 a, b; Heredia et al., 2005 a, b) (Figura 1). De este sector se dieron a conocer depósitoscarbonáticos de edad ordovícica cuya mejor exposición se encuentra en la Quebrada del río LasChacritas y fueron descriptos en sentido amplio por Espisúa (1968), como Formación San Juan.Sobre la base de la estratofábrica observada en las calizas ordovícicas, este autor reconoció unMiembro inferior de calizas macizas, con base no expuesta por fallamiento inverso, y un Miembrosuperior de calizas lajosas con estratificación delgada.
