Gymnopilus sp.<br />

More than 100 species of Fungi were registered<br />

in El Salvador between 1977 and 2013. They<br />

grow in the soil, leaf litter, tree truncs, livestock<br />

manure, and even in other type of fungi.<br />

During the prehispanic time, its intake was<br />

part of the diet and sacred rituals. During<br />

colonization, the introduction of livestock<br />

lead it to the growth of new species in our<br />

native environment. Nowadays, they are still,<br />

a little explored botanical source.<br />

Among the eatable, native species are identified<br />

“Tenqui<strong>que</strong>" (Pseudofistulina radicata), "Oreja<br />

de cuche" (Auricularia), oyster (Pleurotus),<br />

champignon (Agaricus), blue mushroom,<br />

(<strong>La</strong>ctarius), and red mushroom (Russula);<br />

hallucinogenics like Cubensis; and poisonous<br />

like Amanita.”<br />
