Broad recognition was given and
several promising insights were
shared, when numerous clinicians
and scientists were gathered in
Copenhagen to discuss the new health
marker suPARnostic®.
Nearly 100 medical professionals
attended the 2nd International
suPAR Symposium in early March,
to present and discuss clinical study
findings. A strong interest in usage
of the new biomarker in both critical
care settings as well as in the general
population is apparent, and expectations
are high to this unique new tool
in clinical decision making.
Background
Almost 100 delegates met at “The
2’nd International suPAR Symposium”
in Copenhagen in March
2011. Approximately 25 high level
presentations, with sole focus on
the new biomarker suPAR, were presented
and discussed by a variety of
international researchers representing,
among others, such important
institutions as Karolinska Institutet,
Stockholm, Rigshospitalet University
Hospital, Copenhagen, Erasme
University Hospital, Brussels, Achen
University Hospital, Germany, Institute
of Molecular Oncology (IFOM-
IEO), Milan, and Academic Medi-
cal Center, University of Amsterdam.
The symposium was hosted by Jesper
Eugen-Olsen, Ph.D., Laboratory
Research Director, Clinical Research
Centre, Hvidovre University Hospital,
Copenhagen.
The Danish developed biomarker,
suPARnostic®, is already well integrated
in several high level clinical
research settings in a number of European
countries. The marker detects
inflammation and hence immune system
activation, and has mainly proved
its value in the hospital acute care setting,
however recent studies document
the biomarkers capabilities of
also supporting health improvement
in the general population.
