Finance Finances Technical notes: tables 43-50 The data in these tables are furnished by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Descriptions of each of the national series are contained in International Financial Statistics, published monthly by the IMF. Table 43: Foreign exchange rates are shown in units of national currency per US dollar. The exchange rates are classified into three broad categories, reflecting both the role of the authorities in the determination of the exchange and/or the multiplicity of exchange rates in a country. The market rate is used to describe exchange rates determined largely by market forces; the official rate is an exchange rate determined by the authorities, sometimes in a flexible manner. For countries maintaining multiple exchange arrangements, the rates are labeled principal rate, secondary rate, and tertiary rate. Unless otherwise stated, the table refers to end of period and period averages of market exchange rates or official exchange rates. For further information see International Financial Statistics. Table 44: The money supply table shows money and reserve money. Money relates to the liabilities of the monetary system in currency and demand deposits to the domestic private sector. Reserve money relates to the liabilities of the monetary authorities in currency and demand deposits to deposit money banks and the domestic private sector. Table 45: The table reports the US dollar value of monetary authorities (central banks, currency boards, exchange stabilization funds and treasuries to the extent that they perform similar functions) holdings of Special drawing rights (SDRs), Reserve Position in the Fund, foreign exchange and the sum of these items which is Total Reserves minus gold. Foreign exchange is defined as holdings by monetary authorities (central banks, currency boards, exchange stabilization funds, and Treasuries to the extent that they perform similar functions) of claims on foreigners in the form of bank deposits. Treasury bills, short and long-term government securities, and other claims usable in the event of a balance-of-payments deficit, including non-marketable claims arising from inter-central bank and intergovernmental arrangements without regard to whether the claim is denominated in the currency of the debtor or the creditor. Table 46: The table reports data on official holdings of gold expressed in physical terms (millions of fine troy ounces) for all countries. Table 47: These series measure the trend of long-term interest rates. They usually comprise the yield to maturity (YM) or the current yield (CY) of a single issue of government or quasi-government bonds whose ownership is widely distributed and with a final maturity of not less than 10 years. Current yields based on “irredeemable or perpetual” government bonds (which carry no obligation of repayment at a fixed date but which usually are redeemable at the option of the government) are designated as YP. Par “monnaie” on entend le passif du système monétaire sous forme de monnaie fiduciaire et en dépôts à vue à l’égard du secteur privé national. Par “monnaie de réserve” on entend le passif des autorités monétaires en monnaie fiduciaire et en dépôts à vue à l’égard des banques de dépôt et du secteur privé national. Tableau 45 : Le tableau présente la valeur en dollars EU des avoirs des autorités monétaires (banque centrale, fonds de stabilisation des changes et, dans la mesure où il exerce des fonctions analogues, Trésor public) représentant : droits de tirage spéciaux (DTS), position de réserve au FMI, devises étrangères, plus la somme de ces éléments qui est Réserves total moins l’or.
