WHAT TO DRINK FOR THE
HOLIDAYS
During Christmas, we can finally
unwind and celebrate with the family:
this time we try to put the best food
on the table but we must provide
also the best drink to make the mood
more festive. The first obvious choice
is any sparkling wine or Champagne,
which can turn an ordinary Friday
into a celebration. While the classic
French drink is still the queen of
drinks, you can choose also from
great sparkling wines made in Italy,
Spain and Hungary, some of them are
more affordable and represent a new
style. If you want to taste anything
but sparkling and you represent the
conservative, traditional style, we
recommend you to take a glass of
Cognac but if you want to join the
modern trends, choose gin and try it
with special tonics. And if it’s really
cold this year, grog and punch can do
a great job.
GASTRONOMY
The Abacus Business & Wellness Hotel**** Superior is located
25 km from Budapest, in Herceghalom. The hotel’s inspiring
atmosphere, innovative environment and uncompromising
gastronomical philosophy makes it the ideal place for family
vacations, wellness weekends, conferences, business meetings
and even weddings. The chef, Ferenc Toth, whose resume
boasts with extensive foreign experience, uses simple, local
and seasonal ingredients from Zsambek’s basin in his dishes.
The majority of the spices he uses are grown in the kitchen’s
own garden. Their dishes draw on both international
sensibilities as well as the traditional Hungarian sense of
taste; all while using modern culinary technology. The
combination of gastronomical pleasures with a peaceful,
familial atmosphere and modern environment translate into
more than half the guests being regulars. Their success was
further confirmed when Abacus Business & Wellness Hotel
won the title of Best Rural Business and Conference Hotel in
Hungary.
ÁRPÁD LANTOS TURNED 80
You may find this sentence below in Frigyes Karinthy’s book
“The Book”, which shows his very special sense of humor:
„Here is the smallest giant and the largest dwarf in the world!”
If we personally met one of the veterans of the Hungarian hotel
and catering industry, we could modify the sentence above
accordingly, it would sound like this: here’s the youngest,
veteran and oldest youngster in the Hungarian hotel industry.
The hotel director and owner – who actually looks much
younger than his age – is still working and at the same time is
practicing sports, gardening, travelling and lives according to
the conservative civil values. The family-run Hotel Silvanus ****
led by himself is already an emblematic hotel among Hungarian
hotels. In our interview we asked the owner about his hotel
(which is surrounded by the Danube Bend and the Pilis and
offers one of the most beautiful panoramas in Europe) his
career, past, present and future. Mr. Lantos turned 80 this year.
