Inflam o papo vermelho,
e preservadas. A melhor forma de vê-lo é prestar
atenção às árvores em frutificação.
and will rarely appear in open areas, though it can sometimes
be seen in gardens and orchards.
It eats fruit, both wild (jussara palm) and cultivated,
as well as large insects.
During the breeding season, seven or eight males
will gather in morning groups to put on a kind of show,
swelling their red throats and shaking their heads while
issuing a deep, powerful moo that can be heard up to
two kilometers away. Other than during these exhibitions,
the bird is generally quiet.
Threatened by deforestation, trafficking and hunting,
this species does not survive in altered forest
en viron ments.
Points of interest about the species in the Mar and
Paranapiacaba mountain ranges • still common in
extensive, well-preserved forest. The best way to spot
this bird is to focus on fruit-bearing trees.
Fugindo do inverno • No sudeste do país, o pavó
Fleeing the winter • In southeast Brazil, this species
migrates over short distances from higher to lower
altitudes. In winter, it heads for lower, warmer slopes
in search of fruits, climbing again when the weather
warms. It migrates in search of fruit, scarce during
the cold, dry winter.
