VOLKSWAGEN VAN
A COUPLE EMBARKS ON A YEAR-
LONG ADVENTURE THROUGH
SOUTH AMERICA

la é brasileira, ele argentino. Ela professora
universitária, ele engenheiro mecânico. E foi na
Bolívia que o destino do casal Ludmila Culpi e
Matias Mancinelli resolveu seguir a mesma rota. Juntos
desde 2012 eles compartilham a paixão por viagens e
desde o começo já sonhavam em viajar pelo mundo.
Mas a decisão de desbravar a América do Sul veio mesmo
em 2014.
“O objetivo da nossa viagem não é apenar visitar
pontos turísticos, mas conhecer a cultura de cada lugar
e interagir com as pessoas. Nos inspiramos em histórias
de outros viajantes, que nos motivaram a ir atrás desse
sonho”, conta Ludmila.
A aventura tornou-se realidade a bordo de uma VW
Kombi ano 2009, batizada com o nome de Esmeralda.
Além de transportar o casal, o veículo adaptado também
é a casa deles. “Nela cozinhamos, dormimos, tomamos
banho com água quente, descansamos e trabalhamos
em nosso projeto”, explica. A modificação da Kombi foi
realizada em uma empresa, que alterou toda a parte interna,
colocando inclusive um teto retrátil que possibilita
o casal ficar em pé na nova casa.
O trajeto consiste em uma volta que durará um ano
pela América do Sul. Já se foram seis meses do percurso

Professor, and he’s a Mechanical Engineer. And it
was in Bolivia that the fate of the couple, Ludmila
Culpi and Matthias Mancinelli, led to them following the
same route. Together since 2012, they share a passion
for travel, and from the beginning, they have dreamt of
traveling the world. But the decision to explore South
America came in 2014.
“The purpose of our journey is not just to visit points
of interest, but to get to know the culture of each place
and interact with people. We were inspired by the stories
from other travelers, and that motivated us to pursue that
dream,” says Ludmila.
The adventure became a reality aboard a 2009 VW
Van, named Esmeralda. In addition to carrying the couple,
the customized vehicle also became their home. “In it, we
cooked, slept, showered with hot water, rested and worked
on our project,” she says. The modification of the van was
carried out by a company, which changed the entire inside,
even putting in a retractable roof, which allows the couple
to stand up in their new house.
The journey consists of a trip that will last a year
travelling through South America. Six months have already
gone by since the start in Curitiba headed towards
