SUMMARYImplemented regeneration methods and regenerationquality are measured using the Polytaxinventory system. The system produces objectiveresults for use on national and regional levels(figure 6.5, and tables 6.6, 6.7 and 6.8).Distributors of forestry pesticides are by lawrequired to report their sales to the NationalChemical Inspectorate (table 6.10).Following final felling, protective ditching cansometimes be used to remove excess water. Onlylarge-scale forestry is required to report protectiveditching measures (in the previously mentionedquestionnaire) and, since 1991, planned protectiveditching must be stated in the notification forfinal felling. This applies to all owners (tables 6.12and 6.13).7 Felling and wood measurementAccording to estimates made by the National Board of Forestry, total gross felling for 2002were 83.5 million m³sk.Removals amounted to 67.5 million m 3 under bark, with the following break down: 34.9million m 3 was sawlogs;, 26.2 million m 3 pulp wood; 5.9 million m 3 fuelwood and 0.5million m 3 other roundwood.According to the National Forest Inventory the subject for felling for 1999/2000 were:175,000 hectares final felling,285,000 hectares thinning,189,000 hectares precommercial thinning.According to Regional Forestry Boards following notifications and permits were given onfelling for 2002:44,400 notified final felling on area of 196,730 hectares.1,660 permits were granted for final felling within forest difficult to regenerate andprotective forests, on area of 14,710 hectares,125 permits were granted for subalpine forest on area of 1,700 hectares,110 permits were granted for final felling within selected valuable broad-leaved forest onarea of 340 hectares,33,660 hectares were notified collection of wood fuel in final felling.The average stand area for final felling was 4.4 hectares.Marking for cutting under the administration of Regional Forestry Boards for 2002 were2.1 million m³sk on area of 10,820 hectares.The wood measurement societies¹ measured 103.6 million m 3 solid volume for2002. Thisbreaks down to: 42.5 million m³ sawlogs; 43.2 million m³ pulp wood ( including fibrewood); 12.9 million m³ chips and 5.0 million m³ sawdust, bark and biofuel.1.
