SUMMARYThe forest industry sector is of great importancefor the Swedish economy. It produces both timberand refined industry products for the domesticmarket and for export. The sector is a major playeron the job market and employs a great number ofpeople. Figures and tables regarding forest industryinvestments, at different levels in the industrialhierarchy, are presented (tables 14.4, 14.5 and14.6). Table 14.4 shows the development of theforestry and forest industry sectors. The mainsources for this table are calculations from theAnalysis Department of the National Board ofForestry and studies published by StatisticsSweden. Information on 2000 forestry industryincome, cost and value added is given (table 14.5).Realised forest industry investments are alsopresented (table 14.6). These tables were originallyproduced and published by Statistics Sweden.Statistics presenting values for standing forestand forest land in the general tax assessments ofreal estate in 1981, 1992 and 1998 are given (table14.7). Also shown are the value of standing forestand forest land from annual conversions in 1999–2002. These data are collected and processed byStatistics Sweden. Average values per hectare andcubic metre are calculated using figures from TheNational Forest Inventory.Tables 14.8 through 14.14 give information onstate subsidies for nature conservation; culturalheritage protection; liming and fertilization onforest land; and state compensation for habitatprotection and civil rights agreements on natureconservation. The figures are collected and publishedby the Forest Management Department ofthe National Board of Forestry and the NationalBoard of Agriculture (tables 14.8, 14.9 and 14.12).312
