SUMMARYThis chapter presents domestic prices for: sawlogs(table 13.1), pulpwood (tables 13.2 and 13.3),chips (table 13.4), standing timber (table 13.5)and average prices for wood fuels and peat (table13.8). Export prices for roundwood and sawnsoftwood (table 13.6) are presented, as are exportprices for pulp, paper and paperboard (table 13.7).Domestic forestry- and agricultural real estateprices (tables 13.9 and 13.10) are also shown. Results in tables 13.1 through 13.3 are calculatedby SDC. Calculations are based on roundwoodquantities, and certain selection criteria. Forexample, only the first buyer’s price is used.Furthermore, only prices for delivery logs and allquality classes are included (except refused logs). The development of prices for sawlogs andpulpwood (delivery logs) (figures 13.1 and 13.2)are based on two different kinds of models. Theolder model (1967/68–1993/94) is based on pricelists from the Forest Owners Association. Thesecond model is mentioned above and covers datasince 1995. Because of result discrepancies, directcomparisons between the results are not possible.Consumer Price Index (KPI) collated by StatisticsSweden has been used as a deflator for calculating2002 price levels. For several years the National Board of Forestryhas published price statistics for standing timber. The 2000 and 2001 survey differs in that themethod for selection and estimation has developed.Export prices (tables 13.6 and 13.7) are fromSCB’s, foreign trade statistics publication. Anexport price is defined as the price free on board(fob). For 2001 statistics on the sales of agriculturaland forestry real estate (tables 13.9 and 13.10)only market value sales are taken into account.Prices that are not regarded as representing themarket value are excluded (such as inter-familyprices).Common forestry purchases include:Owned forestry sales – When a company is incontrol of the forest and the processing plant. Thecompany is in ownership of the timber it deliversto its processing plants.Delivery log sales – When the forest owner, or acontractor, delivers timber to the roadside. Inmost cases measurements are conducted at theprocessing plant and prices are determinedaccording to price lists.Standing timber sales – When a total price isagreed upon before felling. The trees are measuredand sold, often by bidding.Commissioned felling sales – When a buyerperforms the felling. The process is then the sameas for delivery log sales (see above). The buyerdeducts felling costs from the calculated grossvalue. These costs are either real prime costs oragreed fixed costs.Delivery stumpage sales – When the forest is soldas standing timber but the net price is per felledcubic metre.310
