TerziogluAbant Izzet Baysal University, Department of Physics, Bolu–Turkey 14280*Mustafa KemalUniversity, Department of Physics, Hatay–Turkey 31034** Osmaniye Korkut Ata University, Department of Physics Osmaniye-Turkey 80000P14This study deals with the effect of MgB 2 addition on structural and superconductingproperties of Bi 1.8 Pb 0.4 Sr 2 (MgB 2 ) x Ca 2.2 Cu 3.0 O y ceramics with x = 0, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5,and 1 by means of X-ray analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrondispersive X-ray (EDX) and resistivity measurement. Zero resistivity transition temperature(T c ) of the samples produced via the Standard solid-state reaction method is estimated fromthe dc resistivity measurements. Moreover, the phase fraction and lattice parameters aredetermined from XRD measurements when the microstructure, surface morphology andelement composition analyses of the samples are investigated by SEM and EDXmeasurements, respectively. It is found that T c values increase from 109 K to 114 K.According to the refinement of cell parameters done by considering the structural modulation,the MgB 2 addition is confirmed by both an increase of the lattice parameter c and a decreaseof the lattice parameter a of the samples in comparison with that of the pure sample. SEMmeasurements show that not only do the surface morphology and grain connectivity degradebut the grain sizes of the samples decrease with the increase of the MgB 2 addition, as well.46
