They were exciting and startling times in the book world
– new ideas, new ways of doing things, the writer as central
– starting in Denmark, fanning out over Europe. I remember
an outing to the Tivoli with the Lindhardt’s and the
Ringhof’s – and sitting next to Hanne Ringhof on the big
wheel, and looking down on the bright lights swirling below
and knowing that times for me, and the whole world of
books, would never be better. The seventies wave of feminism
had crossed from the US to Britain and was now racing
across Europe.
