They were exciting and startling times in the book world<br />

– new ideas, new ways of doing things, the writer as central<br />

– starting in Denmark, fanning out over Europe. I remember<br />

an outing to the Tivoli with the <strong>Lindhardt</strong>’s and the<br />

<strong>Ringhof</strong>’s – and sitting next to Hanne <strong>Ringhof</strong> on the big<br />

wheel, and looking down on the bright lights swirling below<br />

and knowing that times for me, and the whole world of<br />

books, would never be better. The seventies wave of feminism<br />

had crossed from the US to Britain and was now racing<br />

across Europe.<br />
