sort, homoseksuel, kvinde, tredje verden.<br />

Fra et feministisk - gender studies - perspektiv har Donna Haraway peget<br />

på en lignende betydningsmæssig ukontrollerbarhed i forholdet mellem forsk ellige -<br />

feministiske, postkolonialistiske, økologistiske - diskurser. Dette sker selvfølgelig på<br />

baggrund af en paradigmatisk affinitet diskurserne imellem, i kraft af tilsyneladende<br />

analoge referencer til den postmoderne formation, som Haraway kalder det 1 . Men på<br />

tværs af affiniteten forekommer der også konstellationer af divergerende korrektheder,<br />

hvorved forestillingen om en solidarisk forstærket korrektion af den vestlige orden<br />

bryder sammen i spillet om sandhedens sparsomme ressource. Haraways eksempel er<br />

den kvindelige primatolog, the strange pale intruder fra the National Geographic<br />

System: "If whiteness were too much emphasized, the universal nature of the saving act<br />

would be compromised. The race marking is sotto voce, but essential. White cannot be<br />

said quite out loud, or it loses its crucial position as a precondition of vision and<br />

becomes the object of scrutiny." 2 Den hvide kvinde, siger Haraway, repræsenterer den<br />

hvide mand, som er i færd med at blive dekoloniseret ud af Afrika, og hun medierer<br />

mellem ham og alle dem, som han har koloniseret, og som ikke længere kan<br />

undertrykkes, repræsente ret ved de farvede dyr.<br />

Haraways eksempel, Dian Fossey, og folk omkring hende, blev ofre for en<br />

materiel effektivitet: "Fossey was found murdered in December, 1985. She had made<br />

passionate enemies everywhere - among western scientists, Rwandese officials, and<br />

local people. Her passion was for the individual animals, the species, and a construction<br />

of nature. An American graduate student, Wayne McGuire, studying paternal care<br />

among the gorillas, was tried for the murder in absentia by a Rwandan court, convicted,<br />

and sentenced to death by firing squad on evidence that made his culture's readers wide-<br />

eyed with disbelief. To them the evidence pointed to irate poachers. The student's<br />

Eskimos in the Movies (University of Washington Press, Seattle og London, 1995), p xii, anvender<br />

udtrykket Eskimo orientalism med reference til Haraways udtryk simian orientalism.<br />
