Freier Handel ist auch Luxus
Koreaner lieben Luxusprodukte, das sieht
jeder, der mit offenen Augen durch Seoul
geht. Hauptabsatzkanäle sind (im Gegensatz
zu Deutschland) die großen Kaufhäuser.
Fast alle Luxusprodukte sind Importwaren,
meist aus Europa. Das fängt bei Premium-
Autos an, bei denen die deutschen Hersteller
knapp 60% Marktanteil halten und
reicht über Mode und Accessoires bis hin
zu Kosmetika, Schreibartikeln und Küchenaustattungen.
In fast allen Bereichen gibt es
erfolgreiche deutsche Marken in Korea, u.a.
Fissler und Zwilling, Montblanc und Faber-
Castell sowie die Uhrenhersteller Glashütte
Original und Lange&Söhne. Auch Küchen
von bulthaup und Miele sowie Möbel von
Rolf Benz sind in Korea zu finden.
Die Unterzeichnung des Freihandelsabkommens
(FTA) zwischen der Republik Korea
und Europa am 6. Oktober in Brüssel ist
eine hervorragende Nachricht – nicht nur
für Produzenten von Luxusprodukten. Dieses
erste FTA der EU mit einem asiatischen Staat
muss jetzt noch von dem EU-Parlament
sowie dem koreanischen Parlament ratifiziert
werden, wofür alles spricht, und wird
dann ab 1. Juli 2011 vorläufig in Kraft treten.
Das FTA bringt massive Handelserleichterungen
quer über alle Produktbereiche.
Rund die Hälfte aller aus Europa nach Korea
gelieferten Warengruppen kommt sofort
nach Inkrafttreten in den Genuss der zollfreien
Einfuhr. Nach spätestens fünf Jahren
folgen dann die restlichen Bereiche, womit
ab Mitte 2016 so gut wie alle deutschen
Produkte zollfrei eingeführt werden können.
Die Europäische Kommission beziffert die
Höhe der koreanischen Importsteuerlast für
europäische Firmen zur Zeit auf rund 1,6
Mrd. Euro pro Jahr. Das FTA wird deutschen
Firmen, die schon heute über 40% aller
Lieferungen aus Europa stellen, besonders
zu Gute kommen. Es hilft beim Preiswettbewerb
und auch dabei, noch bestehende
nicht-tarifäre Handelshemmnisse in den
Griff zu bekommen.

The fact that Koreans are in love with luxury
products can immediately be recognized while
walking the streets of Seoul. Main distribution
channels are the large department stores.
Most luxury items are imported products,
mainly from Europe. Examples range from
premium cars, with a German market share
of about 60%, to fashion and accessoires,
cosmetics, writing instruments and kitchen
equipment. German brands are succesful
in nearly all fields, e.g. Fissler and Zwilling,
Montblanc and Faber-Castell as well
as watchmakers Glashütte Original and
Lange&Söhne. Furniture of bulthaup, Miele
and Rolf Benz is also available in Korea.
The signing of the FTA between the Republic
of Korea and the EU on October 6 th in Brussels
is excellent news not only for the luxury
industry. This first FTA of the EU with an
Asian country has now to be ratified by both
the EU- and the Korean parliament and can
get effective from July 1 st 2011. It lifts trade
restrictions for all kinds of goods. Around half
of the European exports will benefit from a
zero import tax immediately after ratification,
the other product groups after 5 years the
latest. From 2016, nearly all products from
Germany can be exported to Korea without
any import duties.
According to the European Commission,
the total import duty burden for European
products in Korea amounted to 1.6 bil. Euro
in 2009. The FTA will be especially beneficial
for German companies that have a total EU
export to Korea share of more than 40%. It
facilitates price competition and is also the
starting point for solving some still existing
non-tariff trade issues.
