DER ERSTE INDISCHE FILM ENTSTEHT<br />
Nachdem die Technik des Filmemachens bekannt war,<br />
machten sich viele Inder dran, ihren ersten Film zu drehen.<br />
So auch Dhundiraj Govind Phalke. Er ging nach London,<br />
das Handwerk zu erlernen und sich das nötige technische<br />
Equipment zu besorgen und drehte kurzerhand den ersten<br />
Film, den mythologischen Film „Raja Harishchandra“.<br />
Seine Idee war es, einen Film zu machen, der auf das<br />
indische Publikum und die indische Mentalität zugeschnitten<br />
ist. Bei der Realisierung des Films erhielt er von allen<br />
Seiten Unterstützung. Doch für die weibliche Hauptrolle<br />
fand er keine Frau und besetzte die Rolle kurzerhand mit<br />
einem Kellner aus Mumbai, Salunke, der dann die Rolle<br />
der Queen Taramati übernahm. Der Film wurde am 3. Mai<br />
1913 veröffentlicht und ist der erste Film in der Geschichte<br />
des Indischen Kinos.<br />
