AbstractLifelong learning is not only important for individuals. Organisations also have to go throughcontinuous modification processes to survive in the market. Therefore it must be possible to generateand assimilate knowledge. These processes require the specification of objective targets and steps fortheir achievement in terms of management of knowledge and knowledge processes. In particular big,multinational companies have to invest in this area, because they are facing not only the commonproblems of knowledge management, but also geographical distribution and linguistical or culturalbarriers. The intention of this thesis is to present a general concept for knowledge management in afocused technology company and to evaluate the information system Hyperwave with respect to thisconcept.The theoretical part defines the most important terms of knowledge management and introducestheoretical models and approaches. Then the problematic areas of knowledge management in generaland special problems for big, multinational companies in particular are pointed out. Next solutions tothese problems are shown on the basis of case studies about well-known companies and theories aboutlearning organisations.In the practical part of the thesis the relevant knowledge processes of multinational companiesare analysed and general requirements for knowledge management and for an informationsystem aredeveloped. Then it will be evaluated, which component of this ideal system can be realized using theHyperwave Informationsystem. At last the implementation of two choosen modules, which completesthe ideal knowledge management system for multinational companies, is pointed out.Finally this thesis is summarized and an outlook for further engagement with knowledge managementin worldwide operating companies is given.
