HII Dummy
The Hybrid II 50th Percentile Male Test Dummy, originally
designed by Alderson Research Laboratories, was modified
by General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) using Alderson and Sierra
Engineering parts. This dummy was capable of generating
test data with sufficient biofidelity to be used for automotive
crashworthiness testing. In 1973, the dummy was mandated
by NHTSA for use in testing automotive restraint systems to
meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No.208
(FMVSS 208).
HIII Dummy
The Hybrid III 50th Percentile Male Crash Test Dummy is the
most widely used crashtest dummy in the world for the
evaluation of automotive safety restraint systems in frontal
crash testing. Originally developed by General Motors.
The dummy is a regulated test device in the USA Code of
Federal Regulations (Part 572, Subpart E) and also in the
European ECE Regulations.
Thor FT
THOR is an advanced50th percentile male dummy. The
successor of Hybrid III, THOR has a more humanlike spine
and pelvi, and ist face contains a number of sensors which
allow an alysis of facial impacts to an accuracy currently
unobtainable with other dummies.
THOR's range of sensors is also greater in quantity and
sensitivity than those of Hybrid III.
US SID
The DOT SID was adapted from the Hybrid II 50th Percentile
Male Test Dummy to provide human-like acceleration
responses in the lateral direction when testing automotive
side impact crashworthiness.
SID was developed by the Highway Safety Research Institute
at the University of Michigan, under contract to the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Modifications and test
procedures were made by Calspan, with further enhancements
by the Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC).
SID (Part 572 Subpart F) is the mandated standard to meet
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No.214, Side Impact
Protection (FMVSS 214).
