Process concepts for the catchment scaleBased on the comprehensive field mapping and statistical data analysis mainly two process typescan be distinguished (Fig. 3):Process type A occurs mainly on schistose rock (mica schist, phyllite) with a very large volume ofmass movements. The mass movements mainly induced by slope hydrology whereas return flow causessurface runoff in forests. The mass movements on tertiary sediments show the same behaviour asmovements on mica schist and phyllite thus they have been combined in one process type.Process type B occurs mainly on gneiss rock where rapid infiltration of surface overland flow causedvery small volume of mass movements. The mass movements are mainly induced by fluvial erosionand slope hydrology.Figure 3: Schematic overview of the process types A (left figure) and B (right figure). Conclusions and future workBased on the acquired field knowledge, it was possible to distinguish areas of different heterogeneities/homogeneitiesof the dominant process chains for several micro-scale parts of the catchmentarea. Subsequently, conceptual slope profiles should be derived from the detailed field data, andthese should include information of the dominant and complex process systems. This forms an essentialstarting point in order to be able to realistically consider relevant hazard-related processesas part of process-oriented modelling.Anschrift des Verfassers:Peter ChifflardFachbereich Geographie, Philipps-Universität MarburgDeutschhausstraße 10, 35032 MarburgEmail: peter.chifflard@gmx.de137
