1958 konnte das Bahnhofsgebäude eingeweiht
werden, bis heute der vielleicht
eleganteste Verkehrsbau der Nachkriegszeit.
Internationale Beachtung findet
vor allem auch das Reuchlinhaus im
Stadtgarten, das heute das Schmuckmuseum
und den Kunstverein beherbergt.
Das Zusammenspiel zwischen
Innen und Außen, zwischen Tageslicht
und aus den Vitrinen heraus leuchtendem
Kunstlicht, der sichere Einsatz unterschiedlicher
Materialien wie Glas,
Sandstein, Aluminium und Holz machte
und machen das Gebäude zu einem
hervorragenden und richtungweisenden
Museumsbau.
Namhafte Architekten wie Otto Bartning,
Egon Eiermann und Manfred
Lehmbruck haben in Pforzheim steinerne
Spuren hinterlassen; ihre Botschaft
lautet: „Pforzheim ist eine moderne
Stadt.“ Ihre architektonische Qualität
steht außer Frage, manchmal muss man
sie einfach nur ein wenig aufspüren.

A unique building and an early piece of
post-war modern age is St. Mathew’s
Church in Arlinger built by Egon Eiermann.
Its coloured concrete honeycomb
stones cast of crushed debris
provide the otherwise window-less
church with coloured light walls which,
in the dark, shine to the outside and
create a very special, intensive atmosphere.
This church became the forerunner
to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial
Church in Berlin.
In 1958 the station building was opened
which is today probably still one of the
most elegant railway buildings of the
post-war period. The “Reuchlinhaus” in
the city gardens which nowadays also
houses the jewellery museum and the
art society attracts international interest.
The interaction of inside and outside,
between daylight and artificial
light from the glass cabinets, the safe
use of different materials such as glass,
sandstone, aluminium and wood turn
the building into an excellent and trendsetting
museum building.
Renowned architects such as Otto
Bart ning, Egon Eiermann and Manfred
Lehmbruck left their stony traces in
Pforzheim; their message is: “Pforzheim
is a modern town.“ Its architectural
quality is beyond question, sometimes
it just needs to be traced.
Transparency, simplicity and flying
roofs, light and air, mosaic
decoration on exterior and balconies
– these are just some of the typical
features of the design of the fifties.
