STATEMENT
As the Governor of the Region, I would like to
assure the Austrian entrepreneurs that we are
ready to establish all the necessary conditions for
those who would like to work and invest into our
region and make full use of its transit potential.

On the Investment potential of the
Surkhandarya Region
The Surkhandarya Region is located in the south
of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It borders with Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. It has a
territory of 20.000 square kilometers. The region
includes 13 districts and the administrative center
of Surkhandarya is the city of Termez. The population
of the region is more than 2.5 million people.
There is a developed transport infrastructure,
including international highways linking the CIS
countries, the railway, an international airport
and modern logistics centers.
The structure of GDP is dominated by agriculture
(39.4%), the main branches of which are
cotton growing, silkworming, horticulture, grain
growing, transport and communications (12.7%),
industry (8%), trade and public catering (10.1%),
construction (7.7%), etc.
In the structure of the regional economy and
agriculture, industry, construction and trade are
predominant. The main areas of agricultural production
are the cultivation of raw cotton, cereals,
fruit and vegetable products, as well as the production
of livestock. In the mountainous areas of
the region horticulture and viticulture are highly
developed.
In 2017, Surkhandarya Region produced
620.000 tons of raw cotton, 1.5 million tons of vegetables
and more than 400.000 tons of fruits.
The largest share in the total output of industrial
products is produced by the enterprises of
light, food, flour-grinding industry and the construction
industry enterprises. The structure of
exports is dominated by such positions as food
products, services and cotton fiber.
Today more than 1,700 industrial enterprises
successfully operate in the Region with the participation
of such countries as Germany, Great
Britain, Greece, Russia, South Korea, China, Indonesia,
India and others.
A great attention is paid to the establishment
of new industries with the involvement of modern
technologies for the production of export-oriented
and import-substituting products.
In particular, we’re currently working on the
implementation of 671 projects worth 1 billion 85
million US dollars.

Prospective areas for investment are light, electrical
and pharmaceutical industries, processing
of agricultural products, production of construction,
leather and footwear products.

The Region has identified more than 300 mineral
deposits and manifestations. Surkhandarya
Region has a great investment potential – the
subsoil has industrial reserves of coal, oil, natural
gas, salt, phosphorites, gypsum, marble, granite,
non-ferrous metals and others. I would like to
note that the free economic zone "Boysun-Pharm",
specializing in the production of pharmaceutical
products, has been established as well. When
organizing the production in the FEZ "Boysun-
Pharm" a number of benefits are provided. In particular,
depending on the amount of investment
the companies are exempted from all types of tax
from 3 to 10 years. The rich ancient history of the
Surkhandarya Region, the presence of architectural
and historical monuments, architectural buildings,
as well as the beautiful nature of the region,
makes it possible to grow tourism there as well.
In Surkhandarya Region, there are more than
360 monuments of cultural, archaeological and
historical heritage, sights of the Islamic period,
the era of Buddhism and ancient antiquity. The
Buddhist monastery “Kora tepa”, “Fayoz Tepa”,
“Zurmala Stupa”, “Dalvarzin Tepa” hillfort and
“Kampir Tepa” are some kind of unique and claim
to be the cradle of Buddhism in the world. One
of the important Muslim shrines of the Region
is the complex of Hakim at-covered with patterns
with Arabic verses. In addition, at present
time the necessary conditions are established for
travelers to have a pleasant rest in the bosom of
nature, while admiring the unique beauty of the
southern region. The mountain landscape of the
Baysun, Sariasiyo and Sherabad regions is famous
for its unique natural beauty, where ecotourism is
being actively developed. A worthy place among
the sights is occupied by the Termez Archeological
Museum. Today it has more than 76 thousand
exhibits, more than 5 thousand of which are exhibited
in showrooms. They tell about the history
of the Region, beginning from 100 thousand years
BC and up to the XIX century.
