Dear citizens of Wernigerode,
dear friends of choral music,
Welcome to the 12 th International Johannes
Brahms Choir Festival & Competition
in Wernigerode 2023. I am very glad that we
can finally come together again after this
difficult time of the last years, not only to
enjoy music and singing together, but also
to enable an exchange of cultures.
True to our motto "Singing together brings
nations together", we are very happy to welcome
27 choirs and groups from 14 nations
this year. Besides choirs from many European
countries, there are also choirs from
Israel, Bolivia, Canada, China, South Africa,
USA, Ghana and Chinese Taipei. They are all
coming together to create a festival of choral
music in the midst of the colourful town
at the foot of the Harz Mountains and also to
provide an international flair.
My special thanks go to the city of Wernigerode,
Mayor Tobias Kascha and his excellent
team, who are doing a fantastic job, especially
in these days, so that all guests feel
comfortable and the people of Wernigerode
can experience a beautiful festival. I would
also like to express my sincere gratitude to
all sponsors and supporters, both large and
small, such as the state government of Saxony-Anhalt,
the Wernigerode public utility
company and the numerous companies and
individuals who have made a special contribution
to the success of the festival. Their
great commitment and support are instrumental
in ensuring that the International
Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition
is now one of INTERKULTUR's most
popular and traditional choir events.
Music has the power to bring people together
and overcome borders. And in the
context of this international choir festival,
I would encourage all participants to use
this opportunity to get to know each other,
to learn from each other, to grow musically
and to share experiences. Let the music and
the spirit of community inspire you!
