12th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition July 5 - 9, 2023 Wernigerode, Germany International variety meets a historical backdrop Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. The historical town hall and the timber-framed city center give the festival its unique setting. At the same time dedicated inhabitants, who act as individual choir assistants, ensure a familiar atmosphere. This competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century. Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching. Due to its familiar character, the beautiful backdrop and the international variety this festival has established itself as one of INTERKULTUR’s most popular events.

Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town.

Studiochor / Studio <strong>Choir</strong><br />

Der Rundfunk-Jugendchor Wernigerode wurde 1951 von Friedrich Krell gegründet und ist<br />

ein international renommiertes Spitzenensemble. Der Chor besteht aus Schüler*innen des<br />

L<strong>and</strong>esgymnasiums für Musik und steht unter der Leitung von Robert Göstl, der ihn 2021 von<br />

Peter Habermann übernommen hat.<br />

Die unterschiedlichen Stilrichtungen, ob deutsches Volkslied, internationale Literatur, klassische<br />

oder zeitgenössische Chormusik, sind das Markenzeichen des Chores. Es liegen weit<br />

über 2.000 Titel vor, die für Fernsehen, Radio oder Schallplatten und CD produziert wurden.<br />

Preisgekrönte Teilnahmen an Chorwettbewerben belegen die kontinuierliche künstlerische<br />

Weiterentwicklung des Chores. Neben regelmäßigen Konzerten in Deutschl<strong>and</strong>, führten<br />

Tourneen das Ensemble unter <strong>and</strong>erem nach Japan, Israel, in die USA und nach Vietnam.<br />

The Radio Youth <strong>Choir</strong> Wernigerode was founded in 1951 by Friedrich Krell <strong>and</strong> is an internationally<br />

renowned top ensemble. The choir consists of students from the L<strong>and</strong>esgymnasium<br />

für Musik <strong>and</strong> is conducted by Robert Göstl, who in 2021 took over from Peter Habermann.<br />

The different styles, whether German folk songs, international literature, classical or contemporary<br />

choral music, are the trademark of the choir. There are well over 2,000 titles that<br />

have been produced for television, radio or records <strong>and</strong> CDs. Award-winning participations<br />

in choir competitions are proof of the choir's continuous artistic development. In addition to<br />

regular concerts in Germany, the ensemble has toured Japan, Israel, the USA <strong>and</strong> Vietnam.
