12th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition July 5 - 9, 2023 Wernigerode, Germany International variety meets a historical backdrop Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. The historical town hall and the timber-framed city center give the festival its unique setting. At the same time dedicated inhabitants, who act as individual choir assistants, ensure a familiar atmosphere. This competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century. Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching. Due to its familiar character, the beautiful backdrop and the international variety this festival has established itself as one of INTERKULTUR’s most popular events.

Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town.

This competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century.

Künstlerischer Ehrenpräsident von INTERKULTUR /<br />

Honorary Artistic President of INTERKULTUR<br />

Ralf Eisenbeiß wurde 1952 geboren. Er<br />

studierte in Zwickau Pädagogik, Germanistik<br />

und Musikerziehung und promovierte<br />

1979 zum Dr. phil. Von 1978-1981 studierte<br />

er an der Musikhochschule „Franz<br />

Liszt“ in Weimar Chor- und Orchesterdirigieren.<br />

1988 wurde er zum Professor für<br />

Chordirigieren und Chorgesang berufen.<br />

Ralf Eisenbeiß ist seit mehr als 25 Jahren<br />

künstlerischer Direktor von INTERKUL-<br />

TUR. Er ist Mitbegründer der World <strong>Choir</strong><br />

Games, dem größten Chorwettbewerb der<br />

Welt, war maßgeblich an der Entwicklung<br />

der chorolympischen Idee beteiligt und<br />

jahrelang für die Einhaltung und Verbesserung<br />

der künstlerischen St<strong>and</strong>ards der<br />

INTERKULTUR-Events verantwortlich. Er<br />

trug bisher die künstlerische Verantwortung<br />

für etwa 150 internationale Wettbewerbe<br />

in Deutschl<strong>and</strong>, Italien, Korea,<br />

Indonesien, China, Lettl<strong>and</strong>, Österreich,<br />

Russl<strong>and</strong>, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Spanien,<br />

den USA und <strong>and</strong>eren Ländern. Für seine<br />

Verdienste um die Entwicklung von IN-<br />

TERKULTUR und die chorolympische Idee<br />

wurde er 2022 zum Künstlerischen Ehrenpräsidenten<br />

von INTERKULTUR und des<br />

World <strong>Choir</strong> Council ernannt.<br />

Ralf Eisenbeiß was born in 1952. He studied<br />

pedagogy, German philology, <strong>and</strong><br />

musical education in Zwickau <strong>and</strong> received<br />

his PhD in 1979. From 1978-1981 he<br />

studied choral <strong>and</strong> orchestral conducting<br />

at the “Franz Liszt” Conservatory in Weimar.<br />

In 1988 he was appointed professor of<br />

choral conducting <strong>and</strong> choral singing. Ralf<br />

Eisenbeiß has been the artistic director of<br />

INTERKULTUR for more than 25 years. He<br />

is one of the founders of the World <strong>Choir</strong><br />

Games, the largest choir competition in<br />

the world, was significantly involved in the<br />

development of the <strong>Choir</strong> Olympic idea<br />

<strong>and</strong> for many years was responsible for<br />

the maintenance <strong>and</strong> improvement of artistic<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards of INTERKULTUR events.<br />

Since 1992 he has been responsible for<br />

about 150 international competitions of<br />

INTERKULTUR in Germany, Italy, Korea,<br />

Indonesia, China, Latvia, Austria, Russia,<br />

Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Spain, USA <strong>and</strong> other<br />

countries. For his services to the development<br />

of INTERKULTUR <strong>and</strong> the choral<br />

Olympic idea, he was appointed Honorary<br />

Artistic President of INTERKULTUR <strong>and</strong><br />

the World <strong>Choir</strong> Council in 2022.
