12th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition July 5 - 9, 2023 Wernigerode, Germany International variety meets a historical backdrop Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. The historical town hall and the timber-framed city center give the festival its unique setting. At the same time dedicated inhabitants, who act as individual choir assistants, ensure a familiar atmosphere. This competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century. Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching. Due to its familiar character, the beautiful backdrop and the international variety this festival has established itself as one of INTERKULTUR’s most popular events.

Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town.

Wernigerode hat aber noch mehr zu bieten. Es steht für wirtschaftliche Entwicklung,<br />
für eine gute Infrastruktur, für Kultur und Bildung. Der kleinstädtische Rhythmus bringt<br />
Leben und Arbeiten in Einklang. Die attraktive Lage sorgt für angenehmes Wohnen. Zudem<br />
werden Einheimische und Besucher*innen in die zahlreichen Park- und Grünanlagen,<br />
wie dem Wildpark Christianental oder dem Bürgerpark Wernigerode zur Erholung<br />
eingeladen. Mit ihren Einkaufsstraßen in der Altstadt, wo eine Vielzahl von Geschäften,<br />
kleinen Boutiquen, Cafés und Restaurants zu finden sind, lädt Wernigerode zum Bummeln<br />
und Verweilen ein.<br />
In Wernigerode nehmen die Begriffe Tradition und Moderne einen hohen Stellenwert<br />
ein. So wird das „Harzer Brauchtum“ ebenso gepflegt wie Moderne Kunst und Kultur.<br />
Höhepunkte im Jahr sind traditionsreiche Veranstaltungen wie das Rathausfest, das<br />
Weinfest und der Weihnachtsmarkt. Für Wissbegierige bietet die Stadt Wernigerode mit<br />
dem Schloß Wernigerode®, dem Luftfahrtmuseum Wernigerode, dem Harzmuseum bis<br />
hin zum Feuerwehrmuseum sowie dem Harzplanetarium eine vielseitige Museumsund<br />
Kulturl<strong>and</strong>schaft.<br />
Wernigerode ist seit Jahrzehnten als eine Hochburg des Chorgesanges bekannt und seit<br />
dem Jahre 1951 Heimat des Rundfunk-Jugendchores Wernigerode. Generationen von<br />
Musikerzieher*innen, Solist*innen, Dirigent*innen, die heute das nationale und internationale<br />
Musikleben mitbestimmen, erhielten am hier beheimateten L<strong>and</strong>esmusikgymnasium<br />
eine solide musikalische Ausbildung.<br />
Das Philharmonische Kammerorchester Wernigerode, kurz PKOW, und die überregional<br />
bekannten und beliebten Wernigeröder Schlossfestspiele haben einen großen Anteil<br />
an der Traditionspflege. Mit der sehr erfolgreichen Durchführung des <strong>International</strong>en<br />
<strong>Johannes</strong>-<strong>Brahms</strong>-Chorfestivals & Wettbewerbs wurde Wernigerodes Ruf als Chorstadt<br />
international verstärkt.
