12th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition July 5 - 9, 2023 Wernigerode, Germany International variety meets a historical backdrop Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. The historical town hall and the timber-framed city center give the festival its unique setting. At the same time dedicated inhabitants, who act as individual choir assistants, ensure a familiar atmosphere. This competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century. Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching. Due to its familiar character, the beautiful backdrop and the international variety this festival has established itself as one of INTERKULTUR’s most popular events.

Das neue Konzerthaus Liebfrauen<br />
The New Concert Hall Liebfrauen<br />
Am 17. Dezember 2021 wurde das Konzerthaus Liebfrauen Wernigerode, ein in seiner<br />
Akustik und Architektur im Harzkreis einzigartiger Konzertsaal, eröffnet. Eine fantastische<br />
neue Spielstätte für das Int. <strong>Johannes</strong>-<strong>Brahms</strong>-Chorfestival & Wettbewerb!<br />
Mitten im Zentrum ragt stolz der Kirchturm zwischen den bunten Fachwerkhäusern heraus:<br />
Schon lange prägt die Silhouette der einstigen Liebfrauenkirche das Stadtbild von<br />
Wernigerode. Von Januar 2020 bis Dezember 2021 wurde sie in eine Proben- und Konzertstätte<br />
umgebaut. Die Saalkirche eignet sich ausgezeichnet als Konzertsaal: Beste<br />
Sicht von den knapp 500 Plätzen, eine große Bühne und eine exzellente Sauer-Orgel mit<br />
1800 Orgelpfeifen in 30 Registern aus dem Jahr 1883. Ein einmalig inspirierender Raum<br />
mit hervorragender Akustik und markanter Architektur, perfekt für die vielen Chorwettbewerbe<br />
und Konzerte.<br />

Dass ein so historisches und denkmalgeschütztes Gebäude der Musik gewidmet ist, ist<br />
ein Signal über die Grenzen des Harzes hinaus: So wird das Konzerthaus Liebfrauen<br />
die Ausstrahlungskraft der Musik- und Kulturstadt Wernigerode gemeinsam mit dem<br />
<strong>International</strong>en <strong>Johannes</strong>-<strong>Brahms</strong>-Chorfestival & Wettbewerb nachhaltig stärken.
