12th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition July 5 - 9, 2023 Wernigerode, Germany International variety meets a historical backdrop Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. The historical town hall and the timber-framed city center give the festival its unique setting. At the same time dedicated inhabitants, who act as individual choir assistants, ensure a familiar atmosphere. This competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century. Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching. Due to its familiar character, the beautiful backdrop and the international variety this festival has established itself as one of INTERKULTUR’s most popular events.

das Eröffnungskonzert im Konzerthaus Liebfrauen statt. Zu diesem besonderen Anlass<br />
gestaltet der MDR-Rundfunkchor, einer der besten Profichöre Deutschl<strong>and</strong>s, ein a cappella<br />
Konzert mit Messen, Psalmen und Hymnen unter dem Titel LUX AETERNA: Ein abwechslungsreiches<br />
<strong>Program</strong>m quer durch die Musikgeschichte bis hin zur Gegenwart.<br />

For the first time in the history of the <strong>Johannes</strong> <strong>Brahms</strong> <strong>Choir</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> & <strong>Competition</strong>,<br />
the Opening Concert will take place in the Concert Hall Liebfrauen. For this special<br />
occasion, the MDR Radio <strong>Choir</strong>, one of the best professional choirs in Germany, will<br />
perform an a cappella concert with masses, psalms <strong>and</strong> hymns under the title LUX AE-<br />
TERNA: a varied program ranging from music history to the present. The conductor is<br />
Peter Dijkstra.
