Target Group: – Experienced language teachers/trainers who wish to develop and offer online vocationally<br />
oriented and/or language courses for professional purposes<br />
– Trainers of language teachers from different vocational/professional fields.<br />
The EUROVOLT course is an 8-week-online course dealing with the development of online vocational/<br />
professional language courses. It was developed as part of the EUROVOLT via VLE project ( 005- 007). The<br />
course is conducted in English. The following issues are dealt with:<br />
1. Teaching Online<br />
a) Teaching in a VLE (understanding and using VLEs)<br />
b) Evaluating Internet resources and creating and/or using multi-media material & resources and designing<br />
online tasks and exercises for the target groups<br />
c) eModerating: Communication via Internet telephony (Skype), chat, forum, e-mail, and feedback<br />
2. Learning Online<br />
a) Online Assessment (online – and self-assessment: e.g. according to CEFR Can Do statements)<br />
b) Independent Learning (ePortfolio in relation to EUROPASS, eTandem, best practice models, self-directed<br />
learning materials and approaches)<br />
c) Collaborative Learning (group dynamics, time management, psychological aspects)<br />
3. Planning and Evaluating<br />
a) Design an online course unit<br />
b) Course design in a VLE<br />
c) Organisational aspects: context, logistics and support, evaluation, budgeting, the POET principle<br />
Optional: Technical aspects and extra resources (VLEs, webpages, course ware/free ware, Learning Styles,<br />
Gender Mainstreaming etc.)<br />
d) Final online seminar dealing with the course evaluation and future plans.<br />
This course represents a blended approach that combines collaboration online with individual reading and<br />
reflecting, practical work on trainees‘ own online courses, research on the Internet.<br />
The course trainees have the opportunity to develop their own (model) online language courses on the<br />
international course platform (MOODLE/at VHS Meidling) if you have no access to an own platform/VLE.<br />
