Prerequisites acc. syllabus<br />

Recommended prerequisites: Knowledge on optics, lasers, microscopy, spectroscopical<br />

techniques. Basics knowledge on imaging and optical spectra.<br />

Aim: Students gain advanced knowledge in the field <strong>of</strong> Biomedical<br />

<strong>Physics</strong> / Laser and Optics especially on optical imaging and<br />

optical diagnostics in medicine. They are qualified to give an<br />

expert opinion on optically based methods in therapy and<br />

diagnostics. The students are able to design, develop and setup<br />

innovative methods and measurement devices based on their<br />

expert competence in up-to-date research and instrumentation.<br />

Content: Endoscopy and imaging, fluorescence microscopy, confocale<br />

microscopy, modern microscopical methods, optical<br />

spectroscopy, optoacoustical imaging, optical tomography,<br />

optical coherence tomography, photodynamic diagnostics,<br />

spectroscopical tissue diagnsotics, Lab on a chip, DNA<br />

sequencing, molecular imaging, optical imaging in clinical<br />

applications<br />

Assessment: 1 hrs final written examination or homework<br />
