Surrounded by wonderful scenery from high mountains to deep valleys,
glacial lakes to man-made reservoirs, the beauty of mid Wales is truly one of

Day 1 After our local pick ups we make
our way to Wales with suitable comfort stops
on route, we arrive at our hotel and enjoy a
welcome cup of tea or coffee while our bags
are taken to our room.
Day 2 We will spend the morning relaxing
at our lovely hotel before departing after
lunch to the Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir, a
Grade II listed property and one of Wales’
finest examples of Victorian Gothic Revival
Architecture. Paul and Victoria Humpherston
bought the Hall in late 1997 and spent 9 years
restoring it to its original Gothic splendour
and it is now renowned for its stunning
interiors and fascinating collections. We
will enjoy a private guided tour of the house
and estate by either Paul or Victoria or a
close family member. Don’t forget to wear
comfortable walking shoes!
Day 3 This morning, we make our way to
the border town of Presteigne and discover a
most unusual house and a hidden Welsh gem,
The Judge’s Lodging. From the stunningly
restored judge’s apartments to the dingy
servants’ quarters below you can explore their
gas lit world. Damp cells remind you of the
building’s true purpose, along with the vast
courtroom where you will hear echoes of the
trial of William Morgan, local duck thief.
We will then make our way to the National
Trust property of Powis Castle where we
can enjoy lunch before exploring what was
once a stark medieval fortress of Welsh
princes, which has since been transformed
by family fortune into a richly decorated
Baroque castle.
Day 4 Today, we make our way to the Brecon
Beacons National Park via Hay-on-Wye, the
famous “town of books” and home to the
Hay Literature Festival during the last week
of May, attracting some 80,000 writers,
publishers and literature fans! During the rest
of the year, this pretty market town on the
edge of the Brecon Beacons is a mecca for
books, boasting 30 major bookshops. After
lunch, we will then enjoy a trip through the
scenic Brecon Beacons towards the famous
Penderyn Distillery Visitor Centre. On arrival,
we will be greeted by our tour guide who
will take us through to the exhibition area
and the distillery itself. After the tour, we
will visit the tasting bar before returning to
our hotel through the rugged beauty of
the Beacons.
Day 5 After breakfast we leave Llandrindod
Wells and head back to Essex we make
suitable comfort stops on our route back.

Hotel is located in the centre of the
Victorian town of Llandrindod Wells and
was originally the largest hotel in Wales.
Still privately owned by the great great
grandson of the original Victorian owner,
the Metropole is still the highest AA
rated hotel in Mid Wales. The hotel offers
110 traditional rooms, each equipped
with hairdryer, TV and tea/coffee making
facilities. The chic restaurant provides
succulent British meals sourced from fresh,
local ingredients such as venison,
mountain lamb, Welsh black beef and
