Diano Marina, in the heart of the Italian Riviera boasts an extremely warm<br />
climate. The coast consists of rocky headlands with sheltered sandy beaches.<br />
Surrounded by beautiful countryside and tree-covered slopes bursting with<br />
oranges, lemons, vines and flowers, it is easy to see why this region is known<br />
as ‘The Riviera of Flowers’.<br />
Days 1-2 We travel to Folkestone for our<br />
crossing to Calais by Eurotunnel. We then<br />
continue our journey to Dijon for an overnight<br />
stop before driving the next day through<br />
France, into Italy to our hotel in Diano Marina<br />
for the next 6 nights.<br />
Day 3 This morning we will visit Museo<br />
dell’Olivo, Imperia, located in a beautiful<br />
Art Nouveau building in the heart of one of<br />
the most important olive oil cultivating<br />
areas on the Mediterranean. We will then<br />
make our way to San Remo for the remainder<br />
of the afternoon.<br />
Day 4 Today, we will spend the day relaxing<br />
with a book by the pool or walking along the<br />
lovely sandy beach near our hotel.<br />
Day 5 Today, we will follow the scenic coastal<br />
road into France and visit the famous resort<br />
of Monte Carlo. You can visit the Prince’s<br />
Palace with its 15th Century frescoes, its<br />
Louis XVth lounge and the Throne Room with<br />
its impressive Renaissance fireplace. The 17th<br />
Century Palatine Chapel and St. Mary’s Tower<br />
are also very impressive (local charges may<br />
apply). You can then purchase lunch in one<br />
of the many restaurants overlooking the<br />
harbour or sit on the harbour wall and<br />
enjoy the sunshine whilst admiring the<br />
magnificent yachts of the rich and famous.<br />
Day 6 Today, we will enjoy a lovely drive along<br />
the Italian Riviera to the historical port city of<br />
Genoa, birthplace of Christopher Columbus.<br />
With its pastel-coloured houses topped with<br />
terracotta roofs, beautiful old palaces and<br />
churches, the historical centre of Genoa is<br />
simply brimming with quaint, tiny streets<br />
and alleys. In Piazza Dante, you can visit the<br />
birthplace and museum of Christopher<br />
Columbus, wander down the famous Via<br />
Garibaldi with its impressive baroque buildings<br />
and explore the Old Harbour and its worldclass<br />
Aquarium (local charges may apply).<br />
Days 7-8 Today we depart for our homeward<br />
journey via France for an overnight stop in<br />
Dijon before continuing next day to Calais for<br />
our Eurotunnel crossing back to the UK.<br />
