endpoint presented in Figure 4.<br />

Sixty-four patients (96.9%) completed the trial. Fourteen patients were<br />

male, mean age 49.2 years (range 26.9–71.4, SD 8.3), mean expanded disability<br />

status scale (EDSS) 5.9 (range 2.0–8.5, SD 1.3) and mean duration of<br />

MS since diagnosis 11.5 years (range 1–36, SD 7.7).<br />

The mean number of daily sprays taken in the final week of treatment was 9.6<br />

of Sativex ® (range 2–25, SD 6.1) and 19.1 of placebo (range 1–47, SD 12.9).<br />

Thirty patients (88.2%) on Sativex ® and 22 (68.8%) on placebo had at least<br />

one adverse event, none of which were serious. There was a statistically significant<br />

mean reduction in pain in favour of Sativex ® , as measured using the
