" Mrs. O'Grady", he said to the nurse, " the fever<br />

is already subsid<strong>in</strong>g, so you will require to pay the utmost<br />

attention, so as to lose no time <strong>in</strong> giv<strong>in</strong>g some of that<br />

strengthen<strong>in</strong>g c<strong>or</strong>dial on the first appearance of return<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a s<strong>in</strong>gle step, he saw that his mother's eyes were open,<br />

and that she was try<strong>in</strong>g to raise herself on her elbow.<br />

Stoop<strong>in</strong>g over her, he held her up, say<strong>in</strong>g tenderly, " Mother,<br />

dear, do you know me ?"<br />
