Who are the ‘overburdened’?<br />

The vast majority <strong>of</strong> the overburdened (90 percent) live <strong>in</strong> rural areas and<br />

more than 66 percent <strong>of</strong> them are rural women. Almost 70 percent <strong>of</strong> the<br />

overburdened belong <strong>to</strong> ho<strong>use</strong>holds with a monthly <strong>in</strong>come below Tshs<br />

50,000, thus highlight<strong>in</strong>g once aga<strong>in</strong> that the burden <strong>of</strong> unpaid work falls<br />

especially on the most vulnerable and disadvantaged women.<br />
