*** Proclamation appealing to the people of Liguria to resist invasion<br />

by Austria. In 1797, the Ligurian Republic had been established by<br />

Napoleon in his victorious Italian campaign. Napoleon left Italy and<br />

invaded Egypt, leaving Austria free to recapture Ligeria in 1800, a<br />

few months after this proclamation. When Napoleon returned to<br />

France as First Consul, he soon reversed the situation, restoring<br />

French control in 1801.<br />

28. Humboldt (Alexander, German naturalist and explorer,<br />

18th December 1843, regretting that he cannot come to dinner, and<br />

asking after Madame Fabbroni, and pointing out the difference<br />

between Prince John George, not being the same as the elector<br />

George William or John Sigismund, Electors of Brandenburg, tear<br />

where opened, slightly browned. Giovanni Fabbroni (1752-1822),<br />

Italian naturalist, chemist and agronomist. £300 - £400<br />

work, My tour is coming to an end and I will return to Paris in late<br />

June. I will be leaving on a big European tour on 20 September<br />

with Abbey but I have not signed a new contract but before signing<br />

a new contact I may choose to stay longer in Paris, I have three new<br />

sorry and surprised that the address he sent did not arrive and sends<br />

another, central fold, ink stamp “Received” on letter. £400 - £600<br />

35. Ethiopic, [pr ay e r s], manuscript in Amharic, on vellum, 352pp.,<br />

text in red and black, a few crude ink drawings, ff. yellowed and<br />

aged, modern hard wood boards, stitched as issued, sm. 4to, [c.<br />
