*** A very good copy of a scarce edition (Censimento16 listing<br />

only 4 copies) of a work by this zealous Dominican friar and<br />

title with large woodcut device of a dragon holding a shield and<br />

contemporary ink ownership inscription at foot, woodcut initials,<br />

some contemporary ink marginalia and underlining in red or brown<br />

ink, occasional spotting or light foxing, mostly marginal, a few small<br />

stains, attractive contemporary blind-stamped pigskin, later ms.<br />

title label and shelf-mark label to upper cover, lacking metal claps,<br />

repaired crack to lower cover, lightly soiled, marked, [Adams 1215],<br />

folio, [Basel], [Peter Froben], [1511]. £500 - £700<br />

column, Gothic letter, title printed in red and within an ornate<br />

woodcut historiated border depicting Jesus and Saints, woodcut<br />

initials and printer’s device to verso of final text f., occasional early<br />

underlining in red ink and marginalia, title stained, with ink library<br />

stamp and with inner margin repaired, repaired marginal tears to<br />

b3 (just touching part of 1 letter), b5 (affecting 3 words, supplied<br />

early ink), b8, O1, R2 (just touching a few letters recto, but with<br />

no loss of sense of text) and 2O8 (just touching a couple of letters<br />

recto), 2B5 lower corner torn away, not affecting text, inner margin<br />

of final f. strengthened, occasional light soiling or water-staining,<br />

the later mostly marginal, contemporary blind-stamped calf over<br />

wooden boards, rebacked in later calf, metal clasps, lacking<br />

ties, upper joint splitting, but holding firm, calf wormed, [Adams<br />

M1423], 4to, [Lyon], [Simon Vincent], 1512. £600 - £800<br />
