printer’s device, woodcut historiated initials, blank before A1
present, occasional early ink marginalia and crossing outs (in
case of latter text still visible), small wormhole to title and A2,
just touching a letter on each, no loss of sense of text, some light
browning, some light water-staining, 18th century mottled calf,
gilt spine in compartments and with a morocco label, slightly
rubbed, [Not in Adams; Censimento 16 CNCE 10089], 8vo, Venice,

ink underlining and marginalia, repaired tears to d3, l3 and x7,
occasional water-staining, mostly to end of part 2, contemporary
blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, metal clasps, covers
with blind-stamped portraits, lacking ties, stained, [Not in Adams],

*** An important edition, edited by the author of one of the most
important 16th century emblem and numismatic books: Emblemata
cum aliquot nummis antiqui operis, 1564.

edition, double column, title within a woodcut border of floral
and foliage motifs and with a woodcut printer’s device, woodcut
vignettes, ink stamp to title, worm trace to inner margin of title and
3 preliminary ff., just touching a side-note in 1 instance, lightly
browned, occasional water-staining to lower corners of O2 to
end, later vellum, [Funck 405], folio, Ghent, by de Weduwe van
Gheeraert van Salenson, 1574. £500 - £700
*** First published in 1568 as Den Spieghel Der Nederlantscher
Audtheyt (The Mirror of Netherlandish Antiquity). The work is
important for its contemporary information on Flemish art and
artists.
