*** A very good copy of this scarce and handsome work dedicated
to Jean Grolier, to whom a copy was given. At the time Grolier
was the trésorier de guerre of the French army in Milan. In 1516
Richieri was appointed by François I to the chair of Greek at the
University of Milan. This extensive ‘encyclopedia’ discusses the
philological meanings of various passages from ancient literary
and historical works. Rabelais was said to have made much use of
it in his writings.
