For both Units, you should read and get to know the following regulations, rules and
guidelines:
• The organisation’s rules, codes, guidelines and standards.
• Equipment operating procedures.
• Machine and equipment capabilities.
• Relevant responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and Control of
Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).
• Manufacturers’ instructions.
• Other legislation as necessary.
Workplace skills
You should be able to:
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
• Comply with written instructions.
• Compete forms, reports and other documentation.
• Keep accurate records.
About this learning and teaching pack
This part of the learning and teaching pack is designed to help you develop the knowledge
and skills and generate the evidence required to pass both Units.
It is divided into the following sections:
• Health and safety and maintenance procedures
• Use of steam, types of press and folding
• Finishing sensitive fabrics
• Press clothing
Each section contains information and follow-up activities to help you apply what you have
learned. At the end of each section there is a self-check questionnaire to help you check
your knowledge and understanding so far. You should discuss your answers with your
trainer.
