Skills and techniques<br />

After working your way through the Unit, you should have developed the following skills<br />

and techniques:<br />

• start up and close down machines<br />

• check loads and redirect unsuitable items<br />

• adjust and operate machines<br />

• load, dry, iron and fold items<br />

• identify and deal with unsatisfactory items<br />

• identify common faults in machines or in the finish of items<br />

• store items and direct them for packing and dispatch<br />

• check belts, feedbands, tapes, and wax the beds as required<br />

You should read and get to know the following regulations, rules and guidelines:<br />

• The organisation’s rules, codes, guidelines and standards.<br />

• Equipment operating procedures.<br />

• Machine and equipment capabilities.<br />

Substances Hazardous to Health (COSSH).<br />

• Manufacturers’ instructions.<br />

• Other legislation as necessary.<br />

You should be able to:<br />

• Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.<br />

• Complete forms, reports and other documentation.<br />
